The Texas Chapter of the ACP is one of the College's most active and robust state societies. Our membership is large, our regional CME and general Internal Medicine statewide medical student preceptorship programs are unparalleled, and our Health and Public Policy Committee is very effective in advocating on behalf of internists and our patients.

Doctors of internal medicine, often called "internists," focus on adult medicine. They care for their patients for life — from the teen years through old age. Internists have had special study and training that focuses on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. The mission of the Texas Chapter of the ACP is to promote quality health care for all Texans by strengthening the practice of internal medicine.

The ACP is the nation's largest medical specialty society, and provides a powerful voice for our specialty and our patients. Membership is now over 115,000 nationally, and includes generalists and subspecialists, physicians in practice, residents, fellows, and medical students. The College has always been dedicated to promoting excellence in standards of practice and in continuing medical education.We speak with one clear advocacy voice on issues such as Medicare reform, patients' rights, physician compensation, and especially access to health care, at both the national and state levels.
